Hydrotherapy, is the use of water for therapy, rehabilitation, exercise, relaxation and more.

Exercising in water utilises the unique properties of water, including decreased gravity, buoyancy and warmer temperatures of around 32 degrees celsius.

These properties are used by Reclaim Physiotherapist’s, Exercise Physiologist’s and Allied Health Assistants to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of clients with a wide range of conditions and provide a unique environment to maintain health, wellbeing and fitness.

During Hydrotherapy sessions, water can be used to assist a movement, for example a shoulder with weak muscles can be moved by allowing the limb to effectively float. Water can assist people with mobility issues to move more easily, or can be used to resist movement to effectively strengthen weak and unstable joints.

A range of simple equipment such as noodles, floats or water dumbbells, obtainable with NDIS funding upon recommendation of an appropriate allied health professional, can be used to work on specific strengthening activities.

There are many benefits to hydrotherapy. It can help decrease pain and swelling, and increase function, strength and range of movement. It can also help with mood and sleep, fitness and weight loss.
